Holiday in Pulau Langkawi, Malaysia, Part 2

Holiday in Pulau Langkawi, Part 2
There are a lots of attractions in Pulau Langkawi. Some of the land attractions are Crocodile farm, Kilim geoforest park, Galleri Perdana, Mahsuri Tomb, Underwater World aquarium, Dataran Lang, Argriculture park (Taman Mardi) and many others which some becoming more of souvenir center such as the Beras Terbakar (burnt rice) and hot springs. The sea attractions are Pulau Payar marine park, coral island tour, with plenty of snorkelling, diving, surfing, para-sailing and unspoilt natural beaches not yet encroach by concrete jungle.
I am glad I took the Kilim Karst Geoforest Park day tour. It was on 9 Jun 2014, supposed to be very hot and dry in Malaysia, but suddenly it was raining in Pulau Langkawi. Well, unpredictable weather! This tour includes mangrove swamp cruise, eagle feeding, mouth of river, bat cave, crocodile cave(subject to tide), fish farm, and open sea round island cruise.  It cost RM140 per pax, including a cable car ride in Oriental Village. It started from hotel pickup at 9.00 am to be transferred to Kilim Geoforest Park jetty and finished around 6 pm with lunch included.

After jetty, it's the bat cave! We started from the jetty at 10.30 am after waiting for the tour guide, and it was raining.

Boats at the jetty

Getting into our boat, this lady from Kuwait goes in before me.
First stop is bat cave and a walk through the mangrove swamps.

Then at crocodile cave but we are unlucky as we couldn't go through all the way because it's raining and high tide! We can only see a small opening of sunlight at the other end. This is not like the Tam Coc boat ride I had in Hanoi, Vietnam where we went through 3 grottoes, as the openings are very much bigger than this.

I enjoyed watching  Eagle feeding the most. We saw the eagles flying above our heads and zoomed down towards the surface of water to catch fish. All in its own natural habitat and I saw 3 eagles sitting on tree. We saw a total of about 8 birds flying around looking for food. Our tour guide, En. Khairul said we were lucky to see 8 birds as it's a raining day. On good weather days, there can be as many as 30 birds.
Next, it's the fish farm.

Guests are able to touch the stingray fish!
We were served lunch at 1.30 pm of fried rice, chicken and soup. After lunch, it was raining heavily. So our boat went through choppy water. The ride was bad and the tour guide was driving our boat instead of the captain. Wonder whether he has a valid license and we were all not wearing any life jackets!
On our way back, we saw one boat ran out of fuel! Rescue mission! All her passengers came over our boat and their boat is towed by our boat because our boat has 300hp twin engine.

This father and son came over from the other boat
Thank God we all reach the jetty safely. But we miss the open sea round island cruise because of the heavy rain and rough open Andaman sea. We were then transferred to Oriental village for our cable car ride.

I would say Oriental village is somewhat like a big theme park in Pulau Langkawi with various attractions. It's a family fun village with rabbit petting farm, flying fox ride, SEGWAY ride, fishing, horse and elephant rides, cable car, spas and souvenir stores and affordable F&B outlets.

Duck car ride for 1 hour on land and water
SEGWAY ride costs only RM17
Cable car ride and it was raining ):
I was not able to take many photographs as it was raining when I visited Oriental Village, Pulau Langkawi

Introduced to Mangrove Tour by this two pretty tour agents Bella and Effa.

My sincere thanks to Bella and Effa for all the recommendations on Pulau Langkawi and thus making this trip an enjoyable one. There are many other islands in Malaysia worth visiting and this year is Visit Malaysia 2014 , Malaysia Truly Asia.
