What's new in Malacca - Encore Melaka

Encore Melaka is part of the Impression Series by world renown Chinese director Zhang Yimou,Wang Chaoge, Fan Yue. Some of the high profile projects by them are the opening and closing ceremony of 2008 Beijing Olympic. (source: impression & encore series). Famous impression series in China are:

Melaka was handpicked by Director Wang Chaoge as the coveted home of the first Impression Series performances staged outside of China.

A 70 minute show with audience sitting on 360 degrees rotating platform, the first in South East Asia. There is a 240 meter long stage and more than 2000 seating capacity. Throughout the performance, there will be a 3-D projection mapping taking audience on a virtual reality travel through times.

Encore Melaka is performed by locals from all walks of life and shapes, be it thin, fat, tall or short. It portrays the untold stories of the journey of locals in Malacca through their life facing the many challenges until what Malacca is today. The audience are transported through different eras, presented in English, Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin, Tamil, local dialects and Portuguese to reflect the harmony that exists within Melaka.

There are interactions with audience, with performers coming up the aisle giving souvenirs . 

The finishing was great and audiences' faces are also shown on the screen.

After the show, audience can take photos with performers, which is free of charge. 

As a traveler blogger, I have been to three of the impression series in China, that is Sanjie Liu, West Lake and Lijiang. I would say this Encore Melaka is of high standard similar to China series, but the only difference is that the China series use natural background of hills and lakes. Encore Melaka has extraordinary rotating platform with audience seated in the theater as I suppose the weather outside in Malaysia is very unpredictable.
