This year, Juadah Kampungku is the Dorsett Hotel Kuala Lumpur theme for Ramadan buffet. Our country is full of heritage and traditional cultures that differ from state to state. This is especially true for food, therefore, Juadah Kampungku will bring you to the various states in Malaysia without physically going there.  Kuala Lumpur city is also full of working people that come from all corners of Malaysia. And these people will normally miss their hometown, friends, relatives and they will also miss the most is their mothers' cooking, that is food!

For example, I am from Penang, so guess what do I eat first here? Penang rojak, of course! Crispy pieces of fried tauhu, prawn fritters, topped with fresh slices of cucumber, jicama (sengkung), pineapple, green mango and lovely sauce and sprinkles of chopped peanut and sesame seeds on top. 

A wide variety of tantalising specialities will be featured such as Masak Lemak Siput Sedut (Balitung) with Belimbing Buluh from Negeri Sembilan, Ikan Asam Pedas from Melaka, Daging Gulai from Kedah, Umai Obor-Obor from Sarawak and many others.

Yes, Balitung as locals called it, or Siput Sedut is my old love. My mother used to cook it for us when we were young. This unique snail (Balitung or siput sedut) has a very special way of eating. You must know how to suck (sedut) so that you can get the flesh out of the snail. Suck, suck, at first, suck the  front, then turn it around and suck the back and turn it around and suck the front again! Interesting isn't it? So this crazy foodie was so happy, tried and tried sucking hard, and oh dear I choked ^-^. So a friend told me her mother taught her to suck with some of the soup. Thanks a lot, I learnt a new trick that day!

Serawa Durian Pulut and Santan

Serawa Durian Pulut and Santan is also a local favourite and seasonal as it follows the durian season. This time, we are lucky as durian season is around the same time too. Another must eat for many locals including yours truly who loves sweet, fragrant desserts. Heavenly!

Checkers Cafe in Dorsett Hotel is a good place to relax and chill too, and I was impressed by the ambience and soothing colours of yellow and brown comfy chairs.
